Your IVF Journey Guide
Starting fertility treatment can feel overwhelming, especially when everything is new. At IVF(SG), we keep your journey clear, structured, and supported from start to finish. This guide walks you through each stage so you know exactly what to expect.
1. Your First Consultation
Your journey begins with a detailed consultation with our fertility specialist.
Our nurse manager will greet you at the centre. She will take your height and weight, followed by registration if this is your first IVF(SG) visit.
You will then meet our fertility specialist.
During this visit, we will:
• Review your medical and fertility history
• Understand your goals and concerns
• Perform a pelvic ultrasound scan
• Review or arrange essential tests
• Explain your personalised treatment plan
• Discuss timelines, costs, and Medisave usage
Once completed, our team will help you prepare for the next stage.
2. Fertility Assessment and Testing
Most patients will usually start with a fertility assessment to provide a complete picture of your reproductive health.
For female patients:
• AMH test
• Thyroid screening
• Pelvic ultrasound
For male patients:
• Semen analysis
However, if you have recent test results that you have done within the last 6 months, share them with us. Our team will advise if any updates or infectious disease screenings are required before starting your treatment.
3. Preparing for Your IVF Cycle
When you are ready to begin, our team will guide you through your upcoming cycle.
You will receive:
• Medication orientation
• A clear schedule of injections and appointments
• Instructions on when to start stimulation medications
• Contact information for support if questions arise
Our protocolised approach ensures your cycle runs smoothly and efficiently.
4. Ovarian Stimulation and Monitoring
Over 8 to 12 days, you will take stimulation medications to help your ovaries produce multiple follicles.
You will return to the clinic for ultrasound scans and blood tests to monitor your progress.
Your doctor will advise when your follicles are ready for egg retrieval.
5. Egg Retrieval Procedure
Egg retrieval is performed in a day surgery setting and takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
After the procedure, you will rest in our recovery area before going home the same day.
We will update you on the number of eggs retrieved.
6. Fertilisation and Embryo Development
In our partner’s laboratory, your eggs are combined with sperm using IVF or ICSI.
Their embryologists will monitor the embryos closely for several days and update you on their development.
At this stage, your specialist will recommend what to do next.
